Before the likes of President Donal Trump and Steve Bannon became known in political circles, Ann Coulter was a lone voice among Conservatives. Now it’s not like there weren’t other Conservative voices, but while the rest played by the rules, she defied them and purposefully used hyperbolic one-liners to drive her point home. Coulter’s comments simply couldn’t be ignored, grabbing headlines.

As is always the case with hyperbole, it’s important to hear the message in her words without taking her too seriously. She has in the past compared herself to Christ (taking the heat from the left in order to redeem Conservatives).

She isn’t even afraid to turn her critique towards Republicans, like when she was one of the keynote speakers at the 2013 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) where she commented, in reference to New Jersey Governor Chis Christie that, “CPAC had to cut back on its speakers this year about 300 pounds.”

The Left often paints Conservatives as evil figures full of malice and hatred and Coulter boldly deflects that criticism by wearing it as a badge of pride, describing herself as, “a Christian first and a mean-spirited, bigoted conservative second.”

She describes herself as a “ultra-conservative” and is opposed to gay marriage, in favor of strong borders and is pro-life.

One area where she has clashed with other conservatives is on civil liberties related specifically to hunting down Islamic extremists. She cam out in favor of warrantless surveillance and the PATRIOT Act in the effort to protect America’s interests and safety, and criticized Rand Paul for his opposition to giving government increased powers of surveillance.

Not afraid to challenge President Trump and his policies, she did come out strong in favor of him in her 2016 book “In Trump We Trust,” detailing why he’s all Republicans should unite behind him, citing his America-first policies on trade, holding allies accountable for their obligations on the global stage, his non-interventionalist foreign policy, his hard-line on defending the border and his ability to actually shake up Washington, something no candidate has managed in 50 years.

Coulter currently has 13 best-selling books to her name and is a syndicated columnist.
