Swing Hard in Case You Hit It: My Escape from Addiction and Shot at Redemption on the Trump Campaign
From waking up in a Fairfax County jail in 2015 to flying on Air Force One less than four years later, Tim Murtaugh’s journey is a remarkable tale of redemption and resilience. This is the story of how a man, once consumed by alcoholism, overcame his demons to become a senior leader on the 2020 Trump campaign.
What began as a teenage experiment with alcohol spiraled into a decades-long battle with addiction, pushing Murtaugh to the brink of ruin. Faced with the potential loss of everything he held dear, and with the unwavering support of his wife and family, he found the strength to fight back, reclaim his life, and rise to the pinnacle of the political world.
In “Swing Hard in Case You Hit It,” Murtaugh offers an insider’s perspective on the 2020 Trump campaign, sharing untold stories from his time as communications director. He navigates through the challenges of a hostile media, the COVID-19 pandemic, the high-stakes debates, and the chaos surrounding Election Day 2020 and January 6.
This book is a powerful redemption story, showcasing Murtaugh’s transformation from near self-destruction to a key player on one of the most watched political campaigns in history—a journey that doesn’t follow the typical Hollywood script but is inspiring nonetheless.
