Stephen C Meyer Books

There’s a very rational and even scientific reason to believe in God. That notion is the basis of several books by Stephen C Meyer, an advocate for what is known in scientific circles as “Intelligent Design.”

For many, belief in a creator is an act of faith. For Meyer, it’s an act of science and reason, making his arguments all the more compelling in a secular world.

The concept that science and faith are at odds is a part of our modern culture, but it wasn’t always. In fact, for hundreds of years predating the 1800s, scientists were men of faith, who used science to reveal God’s existence and impact on our world. Then, for the past 200 years or so, science moved away from a belief in a universal creator. Meyer argues in his books that scientific discoveries over the past 100 years have shown just how wrong theories like Darwinism are, while finding cohesion between concepts like “The Big Bang” and creationism.

A former geophysicist and holding a Ph.D in the philosophy of science from the University of Cambridge, Meyer currently runs the Discovery Institute’s Center for Science and Culture in Seattle.

Return of the God Hypothesis: Three Scientific Discoveries That Reveal the Mind Behind the Universe – 2021

Building on his previous works Signature in the Cell and Darwin’s Doubt, Meyer makes a strong new case for Intelligent Design. He brings to light unrefuted scientific evidence in physics, cosmology and biology to confront the notion that the universe just happened to happen.

Taking a big step forward from his previous works, Meyer now asserts that evidence points to the existence of a grand designer.

Darwin’s Doubt: The Explosive Origin of Animal Life and the Case for Intelligent Design – 2013

A followup to Meyer’s original work “Signature of the Cell,” he focuses on a critical question that Darwin and the theory of evolution fail to answer: why did all sorts of animals just appear during the Cambrian period and why are here no records of ancestors from which they evolved?

Known as the Cabrian explosion, this period saw all kinds of new species appear seemingly all at once with no evidence of evolution.

Related to this Meyer delves into what scientists today know that Darwin did not, about how animals are formed and the information stored in cells. More than just the creation of these animals, but the creation of the very information that makes them possible is something, he posits, thats best explained by intelligent design.

Signature in the cell: DNA and the evidence for intelligent design – 2009

With the discovery of DNA came an even more profound realization: that there is an intelligence behind living cells. Much like how there’s a sequence that’s brought into being in everything from a chef’s meal, a composition of music or words written on a page, likewise, there is information in the code of life. And where there’s creation, there is a creator.

In his first book Stephen C Meyer challenges conventional thought about the existence of life and does so using science.

Relying on the same scientific principles that guided Darwin he even goes so far as to point out that Darwin didn’t, in fact disprove the notion of Intelligent Design.

While Meyer’s more recent books handle this concept as well, his original work is a must-read for anyone who’s serious about pondering the existence of life and our ability to
