Fulton Sheen Books

Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of New York and later Bishop of Rochester, NY, Fulton John Sheen brought Catholicism into American households for several decades via programs he hosted on radio and then TV.

A respected theologian and compelling orator, Sheen hosted a radio program on NBC from 1930 to 1950 before moving to TV where he hosted Life is Worth Living from 1952-57. The program consisted of an unscripted Sheen talking to the camera with nothing but the use of an occasional chalkboard. He was so compelling that by the time the show when off the air, he had 30 million weekly listeners.

It is alleged that Sheens own Cardinal drove him off the air, before he returned with a new show The Fulton Sheen Program from 1961-68.

Sheen’s engaging personality and powerful message resulted in him twice winning an Emmy Award for Most Outstanding Television Personality, for which he thanked his writers: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

In 2002, two decades after his death, Sheen’s cause of canonization was given the green light, including the a miracle attributed to him of an infant boy who recorded no pulse for 61 minutes and yet who revived with no physical or mental impairments.

Sheen’s books focus on how we can find happiness in the modern world by applying Christian goals to daily life, and are noted for their simple and easy-to-understand language.
