Most Americans wouldn’t associate a Republican with California, but Devin Nunes breaks the mold.

Nunes holds his master’s degree in agriculture and was a farmer by trade, giving that up in the early 2000s to run for office. He is now the elected member of the 22nd California district which includes the San Joaquin Valley, as well as much of Tulare Country and Fresno County.

Nunes acted as Chair of the House Intelligence Committee from 2015 to 2019 and spent much of his time in that role fighting back against wild accusations against President Donald Trump. The “Nunes memo,” released in 2018, is a four page document alleging a conspiracy against the president, with FBI and Justice Department members abusing their powers in order to create fake controversies. It puts together the facts that the Steele Dossier was a not only of questionable origin, but was funded by the Democratic Party and was used as the only evidence to obtain a FISA warrant to spy on the Trump Campaign in the lead-up to the 2016 election.

Nunes is cited as a major source in Lee Smith’s book, “The Plot Against the President: The True Story of How Congressman Devin Nunes Uncovered the Biggest Political Scandal in U.S. History.”

For his contributions in exposing this conspiracy, President Trump awarded Nunes the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
