Bjorn Lomborg may or may not be a Conservative, but his reasonable approach to climate change and his opposition to the climate-alarmism of the Left makes him a must read for anyone concerned about the issue. In fact, his writing is all the more powerful because of his honest desire to do good, but without the wasteful and potentially dangerous knee-jerk political over-reactions of Democrats.

A professor of statistics, Lomborg turned his critical eye to the environment in the late ’90s, tacking a data-centric approach to the issue, as well as a practical one. In 2001 he published his infamous “The Skeptical Environmentalist” using hard facts (facts don’t care about your feelings) to combat the over-zealous preaching of the Left.

He questions the apocalyptic narrative of the left, predicting the world will implode with environmental collapse every few years, but perhaps more importantly he questions the methods that these same environmental crusaders aim to fix any issues.

Lomborg highlights man’s inability to impact the environment (for good or bad), the extent to which even massive economic and societal changes could make any difference at all, and then goes a step further to pragmatically weigh those insignificant impacts against other uses for our finite economic resources.

In short, he argues that there are far better causes we could be focused on, from Malaria to poverty.

Have published several more books since, including practical guides on how world economies should best dedicate their resources, his original is still his best known, having been heavily criticized by the conventional crowd. One thing is for sure, if someone’s work has drawn the attention of the fact-checkers, you know it’s worth reading.
