Arthur Laffer Books

Arthur Betz Laffer is an accomplished economist who worked as a part of President Reagan’s Economic Policy Advisory Board from 1981–89 and also helped advised the Trump campaign on economic issues in the lead-up to the 2016 election.

Laffer is best known for the “Laffer curve,” which is a theory that there exists a tax rate somewhere between zero and 100 percent that will result in maximum revenue for the government. That is to say, the theory posits that it’s possible to decrease taxes and actually generate more tax revenue as a result of spurring economic growth overall.

Below is a list of several of Arthur Laffer’s most popular books, as well as two children’s books he co-authored: Let’s Chat About Economics and Let’s Chat About Democracy. He’s also published dozens of other papers on economics.

Trumponomics: Inside the America First Plan to Revive Our Economy – 2018

arthur laffer books trumponomics

Published just two years into the Trump Presidency “Trumponomics,” might at first seem like a bold defence of Donald Trumps’ economic policy, but it’s not unusual. The reason? Arthur Laffer, who co-authored this book with fellow economist Stephen Moore are actually the ones behind the Trump economic policy.

Critics might have accused the Trump Presidency of having no plan, when it fact, Moore is more than just a theoretical expert, his ideas were put into action under the successful presidency of Ronald Regan.

But more than just Reganomics, Trump’s plan, explains Laffer, combines conventional Republican ideas such as tax cuts, deregulation, tarifs and infrastructure spending with his own style of populist economic ideas, like immigration reform and forcing America’s allies to carry their own defense budgets instead of relying on the US.

Trump ran on a platform of getting middle America working again, and bringing back manufacturing to the country. And while President Trump only had four years to see his plan through (so far) he really did manage some staggering economic prosperity for lower and middle income earners. This book provides the logic for why Trumponomics should work, it’s clear that within just one year of its publication, the dramatic change for the American worker was already in place.

Not simply a defence of the Trump economic agenda, this book provides unique insight from two men who saw inside the Trump presidency and its policies.
