A relative unknown until he challenged his University and the government of Ontario over the controversial Bill C-16 legislation which amended the Canadian Human Rights Act and the Criminal Code, introducing discrimination based on gender identity and expression to be prohibited. Rather than just some flippant attack against political correctness, Petersen argued that the legislation created “compelled speech.” Politically he argued that its outside the scope of government to dictate the language people use. Philosophically he argued that fundamentally the purpose of language is to find truth such legislation is diametrically opposed to a free society.
In fact he is one of the few bold individuals who isn’t afraid to state that such legislation degrades into the sort of Marxism that brought about the death of 100 million people. The connection he argues is not a wild leap of logic, but a inevitability.
Simultaneously Peterson had released his self help book “12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos” and went on a worldwide publicity tour. The corporate media were eager to have their shot at him but time and time again he met their hatred with reason and made a fool of many.
